Last Friday at 10PM the 2009 NYC Film Race began. Over the course of the next 24 hours, I and a team of collaborators wrote, shot, scored, edited and delivered a 4-minute film into NYC. 

We called the result The Queen Bee of Mushroomtown. I have no idea what that means, but it's screening THIS SATURDAY at 7PM at the NYU Cantor Center with over a dozen other shorts. Tickets are going to sell quickly, so if you're interested get tickets now!

I am delighted to announce that in 2009 Sarah Krokey '06 will be the new Chair of Georgetown Theatre Alumni. A note from Sarah Krokey:

Happy New Year! Have you made your 2009 resolutions yet? I'm still working on mine. I think one of them will be "Skydive" or, "Buy a puppy" or how about: "Jump into GTA and make the most of it". Sounds good to me!

If you do not know me personally, I come to bring good cheer! I graduated in 2006 from Georgetown with a degree in English and have since gotten into some trouble finding out what to do with a degree in English. At Georgetown, I dipped my toes into many of the student and academic theater work on campus, calling myself an all around theater lover. Or was it a theater community lover? I've come to find out this is why I'm back, supporting GTA in whatever way I can. Theater wasn't always easy on campus; but that's what always made it fun! And, in the end, the people mattered more than the technical feats and the acting prowess. All of us on the GTA board are now participating because we love to support Georgetown Theater and the ongoing work of the alums, and we'd like to say thank you - in our own way. Soooo...Come to events! Give donations! Meet the newbies and the veterans of GTA, drink some champagne, and share your stories. Everyone has something to say. Everyone has a story to share.

GTA needs your help! As you know, Georgetown Theatre Alumni is a volunteer-run organization. We will be selecting new volunteers for most board positions for 2009 on a conference call this Thursday, November 20 at 6 pm EST. You're invited to join Georgetown Theatre Alumni as we celebrate Georgetown's incredible history in the performing arts over Homecoming Weekend! If you weren't sure about making it home to Georgetown for the weekend, let the opportunity to raise a glass to Georgetown Theater call you back to the Hilltop--we won't make you go to the game.

So, what's on the agenda?

Saturday, October 11th,
4:00-6:00 pm: Reception celebrating Black Theater Ensemble's 30th anniversary and the new Department of Performing Arts. Join us in the Davis Center lobby (that's "the new theater building" for us old folks) for this opportunity to honor BTE's commitment to racial dialogue and its enrichment of Black culture and perspectives through its work on and off the stage.

6:00 pm: Immediately following the reception, join us at the Davis Center for "suddenly BLACK, at Georgetown" a one-woman show written, directed and performed by student and BTE member Obehi Utubor (SFS '09) which presents the history of racial discourse at Georgetown.

8:00 pm: nomadictheatre will present "The Clean House" by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Laura Brienza (COL '10) and produced by Jamie Scott (COL '10) at Walsh Blackbox. 10:00 pm: GTA reception and post-show talkback. Join us as we celebrate and mingle with past and present faces of Georgetown theater.

11:00 am: Georgetown Theater Alumni general membership meeting. We will discuss current Georgetown theater projects, board membership/involvement, and upcoming events such as next year's Gala. Breakfast will be served, campus location TBD.

At each event, GTA representatives will be on hand with Hall of Fame nomination information, donation forms and the Georgetown Theatre Alumni newsletter. We hope you will consider becoming more involved with the group, so please ask us about it!
