Mike Lavoie's short film, “The Queen Bee of Mushroomtown,” was created in 24 hours for the New York Film Race, a filmmaking contest involving over 60 teams in the New York City area. The challenge was to write, shoot, edit and score a short film of 4 minutes or less in 24 hours.
The film premiered on April 4, 2009 at New York University’s Cantor Film Center, where it won the audience award in their screening block. In May 2009, Queen Bee was awarded 5 jury prizes, including Best Film.
